One of the ways I learn is by painting the way other artists paint, and trying to figure out how they did what they did. I have always loved Van Gogh's Starry Night, so I finally decided to gather up my courage and give it a go. Van Gogh painted this while he was interned in a mental institution, but those beautiful stars give hope and light to an otherwise bleak landscape. And the church! Right in the center of it all. I can never do the work Van Gogh did, but I certainly enjoyed spending a few hours in his painting.
My version is painted on a birchboard, 18 x 24 inches, and two inches thick (away from the wall). The board is light and hollow, so this will not pull out of the wall. This was just finished on October 8 and it is textured, so it will need a little time to cure, be varnished, and cure again. Should be ready to ship at the end of October.
